Wireless Drop-Off was the inaugural program I created for the Citi Sustainable IT program. Launched in 2007 as a local employee engagement effort for New York Metro area employees, I expanded it across the U.S. in 2008 and, then, globally in 2009 based on employee enthusiasm and participation.
Employees donated no-longer-used mobile devices, including company-issued BlackBerrys, for environmentally sound recycling. Funds generated by the demanufacture and resell process were donated to local non-profit agencies that work to combat domestic violence. The campaign successfully educated employees on the proper disposal of e-waste, raised awareness of the company’s efforts around electronic recycling, and collaborated with Public Affairs to ensure that local donations went back to support selected, local non-profits.
- Educated employees on the proper disposal of e-waste
- Recycled >12,700 no-longer-used mobile devices
- Generated brand equity in addition to $66,000 in donations to local non-profits
- Demonstrated responsible asset management by Citi’s technology organization
